Avatar Will Change Movies Forever

James Cameron made $75 million from Titanic. But his dream has always been to make a science fiction thriller on the scale of Star Wars, the film that changed his world forever. For this reason, he took 12 years off, largely to make the film 'Avatar'. Avatar is the crystalization of his vision of a new kind of movie. Cameron even invented a new kind of 3D camera in order to make the film. A first.

Rumors are now swirling that Avatar will win the special effects Oscar for 'Avatar', and is a real contender to win the big prize, Best Picture.

For fans of science fiction, this is a whole new world. Avatar's characters, from a mythical tribe called Na'vi, are 10-foot tall blue creatures that are nonetheless humanoid. These life-like, brilliant creations make up the people side of the 'Avatar' story. However, the landscapes are to behold. The amazing floating mountains, which seem to be inspired by Roger Dean paintings, set this stage for this other-worldly masterpiece.

If you're a fan of science fiction -- or just films in general -- and you want to be a part of history, mark your calendars for December 18, when 'Avatar' opens worldwide.
